To apply for an exchange or to find out more information, the first step is to contact us. The Executive Directors and local ambassadors are here to assist and guide you through the entire process.
The procedure to apply is as follows:
Complete the family application. This allows EFI to gather the information needed to match and assess all applicants. The applications are detailed and thorough so we can get to know you and your family. The better we know everyone the easier it is to create an exceptional experience.
Complete the child application. This application is to be filled out by the child. This gives EFI the guidance and insight into the child's motivation behind an exchange and helps us know the child better.
Provide photos of the applicant, family, home, and lifestyle. Photos give a perspective of what your life looks like and can assist in painting a full picture of the application.
Attend an EFI meeting: Your entire family and applicant must attend an informational meeting in your area. You will meet with other prospective applicants, alumni families, the current exchange students, local ambassadors, and your Exchange Families directors. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from others who have completed successful exchanges. If we have not scheduled a meeting close to your location, contact us as we are excited to bring our program to you!
The Matches: In the fall and spring we have our largest matching seasons but we can match anytime throughout the year. Our EFI team collects all of the applications from each country and works diligently on personalized matches. Each country follows the same application process and EFI directors travel to each country to personally meet applicants. Once matched, you will have the opportunity to review the application of your exchange partner and make the final acceptance of the exchange. Once both sides accept the match, contact between the parents and children can begin and your adventure is underway!
